they're sprouting

Here are all my sprouts I planted early in April. I love seeing them come up. I am excited to finally have spinach, which I have horrible luck with, every year!

I ordered a variety pack of basil. I thought that was fun, but was hoping for more than two varieties. It appears to be only two from what I can tell thus far. Either way, I have planted them and enjoyed them tremendously.
Well, that is where we are in the garden as of a week or so ago. I am late posting this. I have now had two whole salads from the garden.

Happy planting to you all.

garden started

Here is some lovely seedlings I purchased from Azure Standard last month. These are all in the ground now.

I love getting these from AZ, because they come fresh, organic and beautiful. I have been very pleased. I can't imagine doing it any other way now.

I am trying to garden without tilling, so I do have many weeds, but it could be worse. The soil is quite workable in most areas, but I do regret throwing a few piles of dirt from the memorial garden in there...WHAT WAS I THINKING?? SERIOUSLY!
Can we say rocks??

I have my plank boards laid out and I planted seeds while it was still cold outside in April. I love seeing the sprouting results, which includes spinach...yes...I have horrible luck with that one. I have quite a few coming up!

Spinach, radishes, beets, lettuce, sweet peas.

I will update soon.

More seedlings coming.

I also grow a ton of creeping charlie..yuck!

I actually felt like I could get this yard/ garden into shape one day and dreamed about building a very clean, lovely chicken coop, for my 3 I am allowed to have here in Silvis.

Happy Birthday to our sweet boy, who would have been 18 years old. We enjoyed imagining all of the amazing things you would be doing this year.
We love you and miss you so much!
We know you are having fun in Heaven, with your Savior.

thoughtful thursday: spring

What Spring does to my heart.....

Everything reminds me of my brave boy, every day. Spring, however, is a special reminder for many reasons.
1. Spring was B's favorite season. I clearly remember him stating this often.
2. The flowers are blooming. Life is returning to the earth, replacing the dark, dreary, cold, brown earth of the winter. Thus, each flower, as it begins to flourish, reminds me of God's creation, our hope, and B's love of the outdoors...his appreciation of it's beauty.
3. B was a May baby. His is the first birthday of the year, out of all of our children. As a result, the blooming tulips and lilacs are to me as a welcoming committee and an announcement of his birthday each year. It's as if God is making things beautiful, just for us!

Think of that. God makes things beautiful...that is one of our favorite songs, which became the music to our video that we made of B and his journey, shortly after he left us for Heaven. As I wrote that above, it really hit me...we have found a beautiful thing in this. In fact, we have found many beautiful things.

What beautiful to do you see in your loss?

Look for it..it is there....

Why MAGNANIMOUS?

Noah Webster's 1828 Dictionary of the American Language defines Magnanimity as such:
MAGNANIM'ITY, n. [L. magnanimitas; magnus, great, and animus, mind.] Greatness of mind; that elevation or dignity of soul, which encounters danger and trouble with tranquillity and firmness, which raises the possessor above revenge, and makes him delight in acts of benevolence, which makes him disdain injustice and meanness, and prompts him to sacrifice personal ease, interest and safety for the accomplishment of useful and noble objects.
